    Week of February 26

Lucas Duda signs 1 year $3,500,000 plus $1.3m incentives with Royals.

SPRO Analysis - Kansas City gets bargain in Duda. It's bargain basement time, and the Royals have got a bargain, even though Duda has been diminishing. Still work more than that, although reaching back to glory days, as SPRO has, might be a stretch.. SPRO 1 year $9,861,000.

Tim Lincecum signs 1 year $1,000,000, plus incentives, with Rangers.

SPRO Analysis - Texas pays market value for Lincecum. SPRO 1 year $950,000.

    Week of February 26

Paul DeJong signs 6 year $26,000,000 contract extension with Cards, plus options that could make it an 8 year $51.5m contract.

SPRO Analysis - St. Louis overpays for DeJong. Way, way, way too early to give this out. Great first 3/4 of a MLB season in 2017, but only 124 days of service time. Could have signed a similar pact next year if he proved not a fluke. SPRO 1 year $550,000.

    Week of February 19

Logan Morrison signs 1 year $6,500,000 with vesting option for 2019 at $8m with $1m buyout, included above, plus $1m per year incentives, with Twins.

SPRO Analysis - Minnesota gets bargain in Morrison. Morrison had his best year by far last year, but we can understand why that's a concern. We still think he's worth more. SPRO 1 year $8,861,000 or 2 year $18,256,000.

Francisco Liriano signs 1 year $4,000,000, plus $1m incentives, with Tigers.

SPRO Analysis - Detroit gets bargain in Liriano. He's frustratingly inconsistent. One very good year followed by two bad. He just had two bad. Is he about to have a good one? SPRO 1 year $6,371,000.

Jesse Chavez signs 1 year $1,000,000, plus $2m incentives, with Rangers.

SPRO Analysis - Arizona get bargain in Chavez. SPRO 1 year $3,706,000.

Carlos Gomez signs 1 year $4,000,000, plus $1m incentives, with Rays.

SPRO Analysis - Tampa Bay gets bargain in Gomez. Yes, down years for three seasons and a late signing in the bargain bin when clubs no longer reach back to glory years. But still worth more than this. SPRO 1 year $9,185,000.

Cameron Maybin signs 1 year $3,250,000, plus $750,000 incentives, with Marlins.

SPRO Analysis - Miami gets bargain Maybin. Bit of the same dynamic as Gomez, but with a more consistent profile, but less possibility of greatness emerging again. SPRO 1 year $6,277,000.

Jarrod Dyson signs 2 year $7,500,000, plus $250,000 incentives per year, with Diamondbacks.

SPRO Analysis - Arizona pays market value for Dyson. SPRO 1 year $3,818,000.

J.D. Martinez signs 5 year $110,000,000 with Red Sox, plus options.

SPRO Analysis - Boston overpays for Martinez. How can you say that? Over 100 RBI in 119 games. Because, J.D. Martinez has only played over 123 games once in his career. He can't help you win if he doesn't play. It's called durability. SPRO 5 year $90,266,000.

Joaquin Benoit signs 1 year $1,000,000 with Nationals, plus $1m incentives.

SPRO Analysis - Washington gets bargain in Benoit. Yes, he's been going downhill for years, but with extra dollars tied to performance, it's a bargain. SPRO 1 year $1,762,000.

    Resign with Team

    Week of February 19

Chris Tillman signs 1 year $3,000,000 contract with Orioles, plus $7m incentives.

SPRO Analysis - Baltimore gets bargain in Tillman. Incentive laden contract good for club as likelihood of Tillman exceeded the $3m value high after only one very down year. SPRO 1 year $9,179,000.

    Week of February 12

Eric Hosmer signs 8 year $144,000,000 with Padres.

SPRO Analysis - San Diego pays market value, kind of, for Hosmer. The per year value is right on the money, but we wouldn't have gone for eight years. SPRO 5 year $87,512,000.

Chris Young signs 1 year $2,000,000 with Angels, plus incentives.

SPRO Analysis - Los Angeles of Anaheim gets bargain in Young. With the incentives, it's probably more market value, but considering that, it's club friendly. SPRO 1 year $3,655,000.

Jason Vargas signs 2 year $16,000,000 with Mets, plus $1.5m per year incentives and 3rd year option.

SPRO Analysis - New York Mets pay market value for Vargas. Similar to other incentive deals, slight bargain considering. SPRO 2 years $20,513,000.

Tony Watson signs 2 year contract with variety of years/incentives to avoid luxury tax threshold. Seems to be $7m/$14m/$21m deal pending amount of years with Giants.

SPRO Analysis - San Francisco pays market value for Watson. Watson SPRO for 1 year $7,484,000. SPRO 3 year $23,297,000.

Bud Norris signs 1 year $3,000,000 with Cardinals, plus incentives.

SPRO Analysis - St. Louis gets bargain in Norris. Hmmm, probably ends up a market value deal considering the incentives, but good for club that it's structured this way. SPRO 1 year $4,214,000.

Andrew Cashman signs 2 year $16,000,000 with Orioles, plus $5m per year incentives and $10m vesting option.

SPRO Analysis - Baltimore pays market value for Cashman. SPRO 2 year $18,753,000.

Jaime Garcia signs 1 year $10,000,000 with Blue Jays, plus $2m incentives and club option at $10m.

SPRO Analysis - Toronto overpays for Garcia. SPRO 1 year $7,037,000.

    Week of February 12

Trevor Bauer WINS ARBITRATION CASE and signs for $6,525,000 with Indians.

SPRO Analysis - Cleveland gets bargain in Bauer. Club arbitration figure was always way too low at $5.35m. SPRO 1 year $7,838,000.

Kyle Gibson LOSES ARBITRATION CASE and signs 1 year $4,200,000 with Twins.

SPRO Analysis - Minnesota pays market value for Gibson. All numbers too close to quibble, including player price at $4.55m. SPRO 1 year $4,781,000.

Collin McHugh WINS ARBITRATION CASE and signs 1 year $5,000,000 with Astros.

SPRO Analysis - Houston gets bargain in McHugh. Small bargain. Club number was $4.55m. SPRO 1 year $5,936,000.

Eduardo Nunez resigns with Red Sox for one year and $4,000,000, plus $4m option with $2m buyout. Also includes $2m incentives.

SPRO Analysis - Boston pays market value for Nunez. SPRO 1 year $5,377,000.

Scooter Gennett WINS ARBITRATION CASE and signs for $5,700,000 with Reds.

SPRO Analysis - Cincinnati pays market value for Gennett. We'd have been more okay with the club number at $5.1m, but this is okay. SPRO 1 year $5,053,000.

Brandon Maurer LOSES ARBITRATION CASE and signs for $2,950,000 with Royals.

SPRO Analysis - Kansas City overpays for Maurer. Both numbers ($3.5m player) too high. SPRO 1 year $1,812,000.

Dan Straily LOSES ARBITRATION CASE and signs for $3,375,000 with Marlins.

SPRO Analysis - Miami gets bargain in Straily. We think the player was right here at $3.55m. Arbitrators ruling odd to us this year. SPRO 1 year $4,563,000.

Marcus Stroman LOSES ARBITRATION CASE and signs for $6,500,000 with Blue Jays.

SPRO Analysis - Toronto gets bargain in Stroman. Stroman had one of the best seasons in the AL last year and we think both numbers, including the $6.9m player was too low. SPRO 1 year $9,232,000.

Jake Odorizzi WINS ARBITRATION CASE and signs $6.3m contract with Rays.
SPRO Analysis - Tampa Bay pays market value for Odorizzi. Club wanted to pay him $6.05m, which we liked better, but neither were out of bounds. SPRO 1 year $5,721,000.

Chase Utley resigns with Dodgers for 2 years $2,000,000. Uncertain whether deal is for $2m per or $2m total

SPRO Analysis - Los Angeles Dodgers get bargain in Utley. Yes, he's older and not the player in his prime, but Utley provides value both as a player a quasi coach. We realize our number is based on Utley getting use, and the Dodgers will try not to have to use, only as a reserve. SPRO 1 year $6,674,000.

Kevin Gausman AVOIDS ARBITRATION and signs 1 year $5,600,000 with Orioles.

SPRO Analysis - Baltimore pay market value for Gausman. SPRO 1 year $5,549,000.

Avisail Garcia WINS ARBITRATION CASE and signs 1 year $6,700,000 with White Sox.

SPRO Analysis - Chicago White Sox get bargain in Garcia. Not easy to be a .300/.400/.500 player and Garcia almost was. SPRO 1 year $8,867,000.

    Week of February 5

Yu Darvish signs 6 year $126,000,000 with Cubs, plus $3m per year incentives.

SPRO Analysis - Chicago Cubs overpay for Darvish. Huge overpays, almost double. Why? Isn't Darvish a good pitcher? Yes, he is, but he's only been special, All-Star Special, one year, and he had three years where injury significantly decreased his innings, out of six. And now he'll be 32. Sometimes there's a reason why Free Agents aren't signed quick. SPRO 3 years $32,890,000.

Sergio Romo signs 1 year $2,750,000 total compensation contract with Rays. Breakdown of contract not yet known.

SPRO Analysis - Tampa Bay gets bargain in Romo. Yes, Romo has diministed, but he's still an effective bullpen piece. SPRO 1 years $3,894,000.

Todd Frazier signs 2 year $17,000,000 with Mets.

SPRO Analysis - New York Mets get bargain in Frazier. Might be the first in a series of undervalue deals given to Free Agents this year. Okay, so this class wasn't great, but ... they're still decent players. SPRO 2 years $28,264,000.

    Resign with Team

    Week of February 5

Mike Foltynewicz LOSES ARBITRATION CASE and signs 1 year $2,200,000 with Braves.

SPRO Analysis - Atlanta pays Market Value for Mike. Player arbitration number was $2.3m. SPRO 1 year $2,125,000.

Kendall Gravemen LOSES ARBITRATION CASE and signs 1 year $2,300,000 with A's.

SPRO Analysis - Oakland pays Market Value for Gravement. Player arbitration number was $2.6m, but we're more in line with the club. SPRO 1 year $2,184,000.

    Resigned with Team

    Week of February 5

Justin Grimm LOSES ARBITRATION CASE and signs 1 year $2,200,000 with White Sox.

SPRO Analysis - Chicago White Sox overpay for Grimm. Player arbitation had been $2.475m. SPRO 1 year $1,705,000.

Zack Wheeler WINS ARBITRATION CASE and signs 1 year $1,900,000 with Mets.

SPRO Analysis - New York Mets overpays for Wheeler. Just hasn't pitched enough in his comeback, or well enough, to warrant this number for us. We even thought the club figure at $1.55m was too much. SPRO 1 year $942,000.

Yolmer Sanchez WINS ARBITRATION CASE and signs 1 year $2,350,000 with White Sox.

SPRO Analysis - Chicago White Sox overpay for Sanchez. Club number of $2.1m more in line for us. SPRO 1 year $1,810,000.

Eugenio Suarez LOSES ARBITRATION CASE and signs 1 year $3,750,000 with Reds.

SPRO Analysis - Cincinnati gets bargain in Suarez. Sometimes we don't think people understand math. Yes, Suarez strikes out too much, but his value has increased every year he's been in the majors and last year he started to get on base. SPRO 1 year $5,591,000.

Jonathan Schoop AVOIDS ARBITRATION and signs 1 year $8,500,000 with Orioles.

SPRO Analysis - Baltimore pays market value for Schoop. SPRO 1 year $7,906,000.

George Springer AVOIDS ARBITRATION and signs 2 year $24,000,000 with Astros.

SPRO Analysis - Houston gets bargain in Springer. Springer has improved every year in the majors and this is an undervalue deal, both in terms of $ per year and number of years. We'd have been okay with a long extension in the area of 5-6 years and $20m per. SPRO 2 year $31,728,000.
